Digging Deeper Part 1: Secure, Private and Fair Internet
That was the promise of Web 1.0, right? Decentralized, distributed, and global, was the idea, not a handful of dominant portals. But we know what happened, the socializing impact of Web 2.0 rapidly went the same way — concentrating the power in still fewer global enterprises, while conning the users into providing the content.
Fast-forward to 2021, and all we see is censorship, balkanisation, and restrictions — this is not what we signed up for. Local internet shutdowns are being used for political control and to suppress civil action in various regions around the world, and no one can stop it. The cypherpunks saw it coming long ago, but for the masses we’ve wound up with something profoundly centralized and controlled.
Deeper Network are fixing this, with their peer-to-peer network of over 20,000 nodes in over 200 countries. By cleverly combining the incentives of blockchain mining with the democracy of distributed nodes, the foundational infrastructure for Web 3.0 is provided through a decentralized DNS, and distributed content delivery network.
This provides the right blend of resilience, censorship resistance, and speed, to reboot the internet as we know it, and that’s why the Web 3.0 Foundation are supporting the project. They recognize the value of Deeper Network in both creating the infrastructure required for change, and enabling direct access to it.
Powered by the DPR token, the network is self-sustaining and robust — so it won’t drift into monopolizing control and a ‘splinternet’ paradigm. This is what happens when there are vested interests and no economic incentives for individual peers, so that’s why we need a token economy actively which rewards all users for their bandwidth contributions. In this way, the network creates its own incentives, and reinforces its own growth.
There are two different dongles available now, for anyone to get on board and start supporting the network, while mining DPR tokens, And before the end of the year a third will launch designed specially for travelers to create a secure wireless network while on the move, with the PICO: a 6th generation portable unit creating truly liberated internet anywhere.
And with Genesis Node mining now launched, exactly on time according to their roadmap, the Deeper Network project is a proven business case, not a theoretical project. As part of the official members of the Substrate Builders Program, the Deeper Network combines a secure sharing network, a decentralized consensus network and a trusted Internet development platform in one single project, with a single token economy driving it.
